*Huntington Public Library presents “Marie Curie: Her Life and Work”
June 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Marie Curie, born in November 1867, was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist, a wife, mother, and an extraordinary scientist. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win it twice, and the only person to win it in two different sciences. The Physics Prize in 1903 she shared with her husband Pierre Curie and Antoine Henri Becquerel for their work on radioactivity. The Chemistry Prize in 1911 was for the discovery of polonium and radium. Our presenter Edward A. Sierra is a former Nuclear Reactor Operator, President Elect of the Long Island section of the American Nuclear Society, an Adjunct Instructor at Suffolk County Community College, and a proud US Navy submarine service veteran.
